Stock volatility was still weak: the cycles lasted for weeks and not
days. The information also traveled at a snail's pace. Initially, he placed his trade orders by phone and paid a 3% commission
on the purchase and sale for a total of 6%.Shortly after this, he transferred his accounts to one of the first two existing
discount brokers. Transactions were conducted over the phone, but without an advisory dealing. It was cheaper, but still costing
hundreds of dollars per transaction. Unlike today’s transactions that costs a few dollars.
This is the year where he develops the idea of starting a company
which would not manage investors' money but rather a company that would help investors manage their money themselves.
Business Path
In 1986, Michel Carignan starts a company called at the time,
"Les Services Info-Bourse enregistrés". In 1987 a group of friends joined him as shareholders and they incorporated the company,
which subsequently becomes “Decision-Plus”.
Michel has become one of the pioneers of technical analysis in Quebec and is one
of the first in Canada. As his main priority, he must of course manage the company Decision-Plus and fortunately he has help
for that. But one of his primary responsibilities is to ensure creativity and thanks to that talent, Decision-Plus has always
been an innovative company.
Armed with a solid understanding of technical analysis he began to
spread the word about technical analysis. Through investment fairs, conferences for discount brokers and technical analysis
courses, he increased the awareness and knowledge of thousands of investors regarding the use of Technical Analysis.
Since 1987 Michel Carignan and his company, Decision-Plus Inc.,
have continued to pursue their goals of being the best company to help investors and increase their knowledge of technical analysis. His
company develops software and databases for technical analysis. It provides training on technical analysis and assists investors in their
decision making so they can become more independent.
Michel Carignan has opened the market for technical analysis in Quebec
and has paved the way for many other technology companies. He has hosted the first television show based on technical analysis,
on a specialised channel, during the period of 2006-2009 for a total of 822 live broadcasts.
